ART 1
Final Project
For my final project I chose to do an acrylic painting. My painting is of a dragon. I worked really hard on the shading and highlights of the dragon. I feel like this is one of my best projects so I'm happy with it being the last.
Impressionism
For Impressionism I did an image of horse. I captured movement by painting the tails as if they were blowing in the wind. I actually really enjoyed creating this piece with acrylics. I feel like my painting ability really improved.
Alebrije Bowl
For this project we started with pinch pots. From there, we were able to begin molding into the three animals of our choice. I used a cat head, pig feet and tail, and butterfly wings. This project really challenged me overall.
Tessellation
For this project we first had to pick a shape that would tessellate, or fit together. AFter that we made different lines and then cut them out. For mine, I used a square. After my pattern was cut out I decided to turn it into elephants. I colored my elephants all different colors with stripes behind them.
Think Outside the Box Project
For the think outside the box project we received a piece of a magazine and needed to create the rest of an image using color matching and the principles of design. I used the elements of space, value, color, size, texture, emphasis, pattern, contrast and unity. In mine, I turned my clipping into a picture of multiple butterflies, flowers and a snake in the background. Overall, I enjoyed this project. I wasn't used to only really using colored pencils so it was challenging.
Final Project : CD Mosaic
For my final project, I chose to make a mosaic out of cut up CDs. I began by getting a good sized piece of wood and CDs, then I sketched the design on the wood with pencil. For the design, I drew an anatomically correct heart with wings. It represents the feeling of anxiety, heart palpitations, which is like having butterflies in your chest instead of your stomach. Overall, I had a great time doing this project.
Vanishing Points : Dream House
For this project we learned 1st, 2nd and 3rd point perspective. After practicing by just drawing cubes, we began working on designing our 'dream house'. For my dream house I did two point perspective. I really enjoyed drawing the house and it was probably my favorite project so far.

Printing Project
For the printing project, we first had to make a trial plate to test materials. After materials are glued on, the whole plate has to be shellacked. For relief printing I just used the printing press, for intaglio printing I used the press with the spongy squisher. After the test round, we began making the starts of our final plate, for mine I used a foam sheet. I began with intaglio printing then alternated between that and relief so that different colors would mix and show through. Overall, once I got the hang of it, I really enjoyed this project.
Frida Kahlo Self Portrait Project
For this project, we began by learning about Frida Kahlo. Frida Kahlo was famous for her unusual and symbolistic self portraits. To begin, there was a pretest then we learned how to properly draw a face. I was able to learn the proper proportions of eyes, ears, nose and mouth. After, we took a middle test. Then we started our own self portraits incorporating symbolism using the tricks and techniques we learned.
Book Binding
For book binding, I'm making a sketchbook. The sketch book will be used for the weekly drawings done in class. The first part of my project, is the signatures, which will be the pages of the sketchbook. Next, the cover was made with two cardboard pieces and material. Once the cover was finished, I created the end pages. The end pages are basically the inside of the cover. With the outer parts of the sketch book complete I moved on to sewing in the five signatures (5 pages per signature). After the signatures are sewn, in the sketch book was completed. I really enjoyed this project and think I did pretty good, after making the sketchbook I think I will probably make more.
